WELCOME TO OUR BLOG!!!

Remembrances of Things Past was born in 1968 under the direction of dear old friends, the Carvers, Ralph and Marge, and Nini Lyons. They began by sharing spaces at Boston area antique shows and in a shop at the far west end of Commercial St. in Provincetown. As the years flew by the shop moved in two jumps to the corner of Pearl and Commercial Street and now resides in these, our websites http://www.thingspast.com/ and http://www.rubylane.com/shop/thingspast under the direction of Ralph and Marge's daughter, Martha and the other original member of the trio, Nini.
Martha grew into her passion for “the business” as many of us did.  As most of you know, antiquing becomes a family affair whether you like it or not, for we dealers, collectors, junkers, pickers, or whatever you want to call us, assume everyone shares our passion for the hunt…even our kids.  How many of you remember coming home in the family station wagon squeezed between pieces of old furniture and box lots, after sitting for hours and hours in a grubby hall, eating hot dogs and popcorn, and fighting with your brothers and sisters?  All this considered and after spending much of her childhood at auctions, flea markets and shows, Nini's friends’ daughter, Martha, got the antique bug early.  She learned from the pros and acquired an invaluable hands-on education.   She describes her taste as eclectic and has spent the past 20 years collecting, buying/selling and furnishing her circa 1800 home with an interesting blend of auction and estate sale finds.  A few years ago Martha  joined Remembrances of Things Past and, as she has been doing from her start, over the next several months will be adding fresh, curated treasures from her travels across New England.  And yes, Martha too has indoctrinated her own children into the wonderful world of antiques.  They often joke, “Don’t come home on a Saturday night without first turning on the light."  They know from past experience they'll definitely wipe out on some newly found “treasure” purchased at auction that day!  And all too often they cry out , “Let’s go to IKEA!!!"
